Is tethered swimming a better workout than normal swimming?

I have a small pool and made myself a small tether to use in it because of the quarantine, I go for about an hour or an hour 30 minutes a day doing sets with mixed intensities or long intervals, really only taking a handful of 30 second breaks in between.

Since the quarantine started, I significantly reduced the amount that I was eating since I wasn't swimming 14 hours a week anymore. I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas of how comparable a tethered workout is to a normal one? My swimming appetite has definitely come back but I'm worried I'll overdo it.
