Returned to swimming, having some trouble with stamina and freestyle

Hi,

I used to swim a lot when I was a kid before dropping it for other activities. I've returned to it at the age of 24 and I'm having trouble while trying to improve. For the last 2 months I've been practicing freestyle and breaststroke, however, I always feel like I'm out of stamina after 1-2 laps of freestyle, whereas breaststroke feels like second nature. Just in regards to my background, I used to do a lot of weightlifting, so I figured that adding some pull ups into my routines might help with swimming, as I don't really have a strong back. I'm no stranger to running and stationary bikes, so I find it weird that I'm getting so gassed so fast just from 1-2 laps of freestyle.

Are there any solutions for my problem? I'm not seeing too much improvement right now.
