I turn 27 next month. I got in a pool for the first time when I was in high school. I’m sure I can count on my fingers and toes how many times I’ve been in a pool. I started with just getting my legs and feet wet. Then, I could walk around the perimeter of the pool as long as I was holding on. Now, I can walk in the center of the pool and feel okay as long as my face is above water, which can be difficult in many pools because I’m only 5ft 3in tall. I’ve also helped a 3 year old in a pool for swim classes. I’ve tried lifting up both feet in the pool while holding on the side of the pool, but I got scared.
Well, I’m a nanny. I’m moving in with my nanny family this week. Their new home has a pool that is 10 feet deep. 😳 Although I have no plans to take my 2.5 year old and 14 month old nanny kids in the backyard with the pool, anything could happen at any time since I’ll be living with them, and I won’t always be in control of where they go. I refuse to let a child die while I’m around because I can’t swim.
That’s a lot of background info, but basically I need help. I plan to purchase goggles and find an adult swim class. Any other tips for this scared adult to learn how to swim comfortably in water that is twice as deep as my height?
Edit to add: I could also use recommendations for goggles. I do have eyelash extensions. Also, I really can’t get anything in my eyes because they’re easily irritated.
