Hey all, did my first OW actual race yesterday, in a olympic distance tri. 64F water temp. My body, hands and feet weren't cold really, and the rest of me was just fine in a full sleeve wetsuit. My big surprise was that I had a full lizard brain panic reaction for the first 5 min trying to keep my face in the cold water and swim. Was head high, hyperventilating, and def took me off guard. I have done plenty of OW practice, but last year in summer, and had not made it out into any cold water yet this year. I know that was a training shortcoming. Any other ways to train my body not to have that response other than going out for the swims? Will cold water submersion of just my face on dry land help desensitize me to it? Thanks!
