i have a very specific question. i learned to swim as a kid then i forgot everything...everything! fast forward & i am taking lessons. i learned to freestyle in 3 hours. i get very tired, but i can side breathe & i can start my swim from about a depth of ~10 feet without fear.
i want to teach myself how to dog paddle, because freestyle just tuckers me out. i am one of those people with very muscular legs, so floating doesn't come easily. i wanted to learn a very simple way to swim when i don't want to exhaust myself with freestyle.
i wanted to set aside another 3 hours for dog paddle and teach myself, since i see my swim coach once a month. after going from zero to freestyle it seems easy, but i worry about my questionable floating skills.
should i try or should i leave this to an instructor? i don't want to engage in any behavior that will be risky. the only pool i can practice in is a competitive swimming pool whose shallowest end is about 5 feet.
