Should I join an adult swim league?

I’m a female that swam for about 10 years when I was younger, with 8 of those being for a club team or the school team. My events were the 200 IM and 100 free (400 IM too if they had it) I’m young (mid 20s) and still pretty fit from working out regularly.

My boyfriend busted his knee and asked if I could teach him to swim all of the strokes a couple months ago. I said yes and thought it would be cool to relive my glory days, since I hadn’t swam laps since the day I decided to take a break from my high school team (my break turned into an ~8 year hiatus). These past few months I’ve literally fallen in love with swimming all over again. I can’t get enough. It feels good to set individual goals, but I really miss competing and more than that I miss swimming with a team. The YMCA near my apartment has a us masters affiliated swim team, and I am seriously considering joining. What are adult swim leagues like? Do they generally attract people of all ages, or just older people? Are they generally all very good, bad, or a mixed bag? This team practices 2x a day 3 days a week and 1x a day 3 days a week. I guess I’m just nervous I’m going to be the only younger girl there or everyone’s either going to be way above or way below my skill level. Does anyone have any good stories to share or advice? My bf encouraged me to check it out but I’m scared, and I don’t know anyone that’s part of an adult swim league so I can’t ask them about it. Any advice/encouragement/discouragement/stories are appreciated!!
