Swim caps for hair protection or not?

I'm going back to the gym for the first time since lockdown started and my membership allows access to the pool so I figured I'd use it. Not planning to be too intense, just 20 mins a up and down each week or so, I bought some new goggles and trunks but wasn't sure about a swim cap for several reasons, main one being what effects it has on hair.

I'm still young but I'm pretty self-concious about keeping the hair on my head and take good care of it so I looked into the effects swim caps have and found some conflicting points. I know they don't keep hair fully dry and their main reason is for being streamlined but they do help protect your hair from the pool chemicals somewhat; on the other hand, they can also cause friction which can have an adverse effect in it's own way.

So I was curious if just for the amount of time I'd be swimming each week, coupled with the statements above (which may well be wrong, I'm just learning this myself) and the price of them as well if it's an investment or if I can just leave it.
