Hi!
I (17M) have recently started wanting to learn how to swim, I never got any swimming classes in my childhood whatsoever and my very first encounter with a body of water resulted in a near drowning experience at 10 yo. Luckily I haven't developed some kind of aquaphobia because I actually like the feeling of weightlessness in water. I went to a local swimming pool which has warm water (30°C/86°F), something I am very grateful for as it eases the process of getting comfortable in the water.
Now I got this obsession of learning how to swim, I started learning how to float on my back by myself, and as simple as it might sound I love it anyway. I decided that I want to take private classes as I heard that the 1 on 1 ratio is way better for learning. But the cost is really high (15€ or 17.8$ every 30 minutes), my family can afford it but it would huge for us nonetheless.
My fear now is that even by taking those private classes I won't learn how to swim resulting in a huge waste of money. I don't want to consider group classes as I'd hate to be the only one not knowing how to swim and the overall shame would certainly block my learning process, plus I'm not there to make any friends whatsoever I just want to learn.
So, can someone please tell me if private classes are really worth it? If the answer is yes, how can I learn as fast as possible to reduce the cost of it? Are 30 minutes enough to learn or should I choose to stay 1 hour or more? From your personal experience, how much time did it take you to improve thanks to it and what was your level at the start?
Any advice, answer or information about this post would be greatly appreciated. I am sorry if it took you too much of your time and I apologize for any grammar mistakes, English isn't my first language.
