Tackled my first open water swim today! 1.5km with pretty considerable head wind.

Wasn't focusing on time, just to finish. Hardest part was navigating, there was no sense of scale or even of motion. So many times I looked ahead and realized I had started going backwards/in circles. Bought myself a buoy for visibility and it also worked to take a break midway through the lake :) although the wind was so strong that during the break it moved me back quite a bit. All in all I was surprised my arms were able to keep up.

Also I'm not a swimmer and the last time I swam maybe 10 laps of a 25 metre pool was like 4 years ago. Pretty happy overall and intend to get decent times for 1.9km (half ironman, baby!).

Total time was 56 minutes, which is ridiculously slow, but my excuse is that I literally have never trained for this plus headwind. No wetsuit yet, curious to see how much it affects speed.

Also, cheated a bit by using a snorkel, didn't want to mentally burn myself out by having to take breathing into account for such a long swim at the mercy of the elements. Since my arms were able to do it, I'll ditch the snorkel for the next one.
