Used to be a decent swimmer, managed to partecipate to a couple of national and international championships then life got in the middle and I had to stop. Fast forward to this week, I decided it was time to get back in shape and hit the swimming pool once gain.
You can't imagine how I felt the moment I started the usual routine once again, im writing this and still getting goosebumps...
Stretch, clean the goggles, cap, shower, one last stretch, jump in. I literally had tears in my eyes.
Never felt so slow in my life, what I once could cover in 23-24s crawl now takes almost 60 sec for 50m.
Crawl still there, lost the fluidity of the movements and can't even breathe properly anymore but im working on it.
Fly and backstroke haven't tried yet as I was too embarrassed.
Overall I think in a week or two I should be able to feel the water not sure if you know what I mean.
For now im focussing on getting the arms/legs coordination back, trying to understand if 2/3 breathing pattern is doable, and the overall technique.
I went for 1h today and I was able to do
400m warm up 5x400 crawl keeping the pace between 50 and 60 sec per 50m
Right now I need to focus on getting the ability to swim back to normal hence why I'm focussing on 400m.
I felt like everyone was looking at me in a funny way, like there was some kind of mutual understanding and agreement as if people knew I was once a decent swimmer now swimming again after so many years.
Anyway, just wanted to share this with you.
Cheers.
