Replacement for Hayward Super Pump | Latest Forum Discussions

Have a Hayward Super Pump that's probably 10+ yrs old. 2 yrs ago pool guy charged $300 to fix an issue with a $600 pump; still a little miffed about that one. Anyway last season the motor started seizing; loud buzzing sound and it would take 5 mins or so before it would spin up, at times requiring a few power cycles before it would start. It sounds like the bearings maybe going. So I'm figuring I will have to / Should replace it this season. Thinking I should look at a variable speed replacement. Looks like from the wiring that I'm running 230 [2 Hots and a Ground]. What would you recommend? Hayward being the Cadillac, how reliable are the Hyundai's? Can I expect to get as many years out of the them or should I spend the money and get a Hayward?
