Toe dislocations?

I was going swimming earlier today, and when I jumped into the water I felt pain in one of my toes. I looked down and it was bent at a really weird angle. It felt kind of like it was detached in a way, that I didn’t really feel much on it, like my fingers touching it but it was still painful. I was able to move it back into place but whenever I clenched my feet it would happen again. Usually after 2 or so minutes of massaging it I could get it back into place. It then happened a second time, but I basically did the same thing to treat it. Anyone know why this happens? My guess is when I jump, I clench my feet too hard expecting a larger impact to push against them. I do a lot of jumping related activities irl (box jumps, gymnastics etc.) so my body may be used to reacting to a fall on land rather than water.
