front crawl stroke help

hello fellow swimmers, I'm a fast and enduring swimmer with the breast stroke (I know that because I'm in the local water rescue team where we also train swimming), but I can't manage to swim further than 50m (164ft) with the front crawl stroke, because I'm out of breath by then. I've let my trainers analyze my technique but they say it looks fine. I've also tried different breathing rythms and different stroke timing, but that didn't help.

Could it be that having a (naturally, I'm not very muscular) wide back is counterproductive for the crawl stroke, or should I just keep training?

thank you in advance
